The Art to Create Best Resume / C.V

In today’s economy it is getting harder and harder to land a well paying job. When one opens up it’s not just you that is vying for it, but hundreds of others that are as hungry for a steady paycheck as you are. Therefore, it is crucial to build an excellent resume in order to stand out from the crowd. Be careful though. Making your resume stand out does not mean add your picture, a frame, or use colored paper to make it stand out. The real world is not like Legally Blonde and using colored and scented paper will only lead you straight to the garbage can. In order to make sure your resume makes it into the yes pile, make sure you have something professional and original.

Don’t list your objective as ‘Finding a job’ or anything similar to such. It must be specific to each job you are applying for. Almost every job these days requires that you send in an electronic copy of your resume, therefore it’s easy to change.

Also, be sure to make your resume toned specifically for the type of job you want. Although you might have rocked your college job as a bowling ball cleaner, it’s doubtful that the professional job you’re applying for is relevant to that experience. Cut out any jobs or certifications that are not pertinent to the applicable position.

Next, cut out any personal stuff, including that eighth grade email you made when AOL came out. If you don’t have a professional email address, make one. Also cut out any stuff that may be personal. A potential employer does not need to know your address, age, or even gender. They are looking for qualifying skills and that is it.

That being said; keep it short and sweet. Use short, decisive words to explain your work ethic and your assets. Break your resume into small and comprehensive blocks that are easy to read. Also, try to keep all your information on one page, and keep your word length to only 600-700 words.  If you need it, there are many resume builders online that offer free trials. Just make sure to cancel it before the allotted time and you will be able to get a great looking resume for free.

Lastly, avoid any words or phrases that would make you look inexperienced or under qualified. You resume is a chance to show off your assets, not your liabilities. It must appear that you are an able bodied and competent human being that can exceed at the job at hand.

It seems like a lot to do, but it will be worth it in the end when your resume is the one that makes it into the ‘call for interview pile.’ This fact filled piece of paper is your first step towards obtaining that dream job you’ve been waiting for, so make sure it accurately represents what you can bring to the table. Before you go out there and land that dream job, I have one more piece of advice for you; do not lie on your resume. Be honest about your experiences and your reward will be great. Good luck out there!
