How To Make Money From Online Jobs

With the economy like it is, it is less likely to find one solid job that pays all the bills, especially if you have student loans. Therefore, many of us need two or more jobs to keep up with the payments! For a long time that meant working at both your professional job and then a minimum wage one. Not only would this exhaust you physically, but also it was also mentally draining. Now, thanks to the worldwide web, we can find part time jobs that don’t require us to go out at all.
First, you have to decide what it is you want to do with your time. Do you want to write creatively? Take surveys or write reviews? Or perhaps transcribe or complete data entry? Once you know what you want to do, you must then start working on your portfolio. In this case, a portfolio is like a more visual resume. It shows off examples of your work and provides all the information an employer may need to know about you before they decide to hire you.
Some jobs, like the survey or webcam opportunities, don’t require a portfolio because they are the easiest to complete. It is a no experience necessary niche that is open to anyone who has the time to complete the tasks. However, if you want to make decent money for your time, the writing/transcription jobs are the way to go. If you don’t have anything to build your portfolio on, there are many websites that you can go to that will provide free tests to prove you are the right one for the job. A few examples of these tests are words per minute, editing, spelling/grammar, and translation tests if you are applying for a bilingual position.  If you don’t have any samples of previous work to put in your portfolio then simply create one or two to show your talents.
Once you have your portfolio together, it’s time to start applying for those online jobs. Many can be found via Craigslist, Upwork Elance, fiverr, People Per Hour and freelancer (just to name a few.) It is easy to get started with these kinds of websites, but be careful and watch for scams. Make sure to know for sure that they are a legitimate client and use the provided website to keep track of all of your work.

Finally, remember that timing is crucial. Working online is not like your nine to five job where you just put it an allotted amount of hours and then you’re free to go home. Working online is a lot like owning your business. You have to be personally responsible for every deadline and never lose track of your clients or projects. The best way to keep to track is to make yourself a schedule. Decide how many hours you can put aside each day to work online and then only take the amount of work you can handle within those hours. A lot of these clients talk to one another, so one bad review can quickly degrade your worth. That being said, if you do right by your clients, they’ll do right by you!

How to Earn on Upwork | How to Make Money on Upwork

Upwork is a great website that agrees to let writers and editors to connect online and create contracts in an exchange of services for pay. There are two types of memberships one can sign up for. The first, the Basic Plan, is free, giving you sixty connects per month to find your clients. The other, which is the Plus Plan, gives you seventy connects, along with the ability to apply for more as well as roll over ones that were not used during a previous month.

Once you decide which plan will work best for you, it is easy to get started. There are many tests and portfolio building applications one can use to set oneself up a professional freelancer. Though it is time consuming, be sure to complete and ace as many tests that prove your talent as possible. Think of your portfolio as a giant baseball card that’s about to be traded around. The ones with the best stats and overall demeanor are the ones that will stay in rotation, while the ones that don’t have much to offer get tossed to the wayside.  Grammar, spelling, and format are (obviously) crucial in this line of work. If you’re not sure of your abilities, there are many free applications online that can be used as back up.

There are many different types of jobs one can take on Upwork, so go to the jobs you know you can excel at the most, especially when first starting out. Bad reviews can make or break you as a freelancer on this site, so it is important in the beginning to take jobs you know for certain you can exceed at so your clients will leave stellar reviews about your quality of work.  That being said, be honest about your skills as a freelancer. The worst thing you can do is land a job that is way too big for you or out of your realm of comprehension. It will only set you up for failure.

Also, when discussing projects and contract negotiations, be wary of those that do not want to use the website to exchange services for pay. The website cannot protect you if you agree to take a job outside of it. Though the website does take a small fee for their services, it is better than not getting paid at all for your hard work.

Finally, learn what kind of schedule will work best for you. When first getting started and working with your connects, it is easy to feel a rush of triumph when the jobs you applied for pick you to go into negotiations with. Be sure to keep a visual schedule of which project is due when so that one does not get mixed up with the other.

Upwork can be an excellent website to work with as a freelancer as long as you are honest about your skills and be careful with the clients you choose to work with. Don’t be afraid to talk to the other freelancers about which clients have been more reliable in the past. Good luck out there, and remember that honesty is the best policy!

Job Scams to avoid | How to Avoid Fake Job Offers

With the increase of the unemployment rate almost in every country, some people are taking advantage of those who are desperate for jobs to swindle them. Such scams are very common especially on the internet and if you are not very keen you might find yourself as a victim. You might find someone posing as an agent of a particular big company and purporting to be in charge of the recruitment process. One big sigh of these scammers is that they will shower you with lots of promises just to convince you that the offer is genuine. For example they might tell you that not experience is needed and that their remuneration is much above expectation. Well, if you are wise enough that should already raise questions in your head because they say that when the deal seems too good, think twice.

Job scams have become a common phenomenon in the contemporary world simply because of the high demand for jobs. The most affected area is work at home online jobs. There are people who specifically create websites with the main purpose of swindling money from unsuspecting customers. You should therefore take a lot of precaution before deciding to send your CV or enter into a contract with anyone. If it is an online job, do not start buy paying any money either to register or for any other purpose. Some of the scammers will receive the money and vanish into thin air. You will not even see their website again.

But how can you detect and avoid scam jobs? Well there are a number of ways on how you can do this. First of all try to research about that company. Whether it is an online job or not try to find out background information about them before you make any move. Check if they have a website and how it looks. If it is a genuine company it will most likely have a well-designed website with their contacts and every detail. Also try to check for their physical location and see if you can personally go there. If it is an online firm, you can as well check for online reviews and see what other internet users are saying about that particular company.

Be always suspicious when someone requires quick results and has strict deadlines. Do not accept to work for more than one week without payment if it is an online job and if it is a regular job make sure that you have signed relevant documents and consulted with several people.  Remember when the offer seems to be too good to be true that is where you should start doubting.

In general, getting a job in the modern world is not easy and as a result few greedy people have taken that advantage to con job seekers whatever little they have. However, you can avoid their traps by ensuring that you take absolute precaution when it comes to applying for jobs. Always remember as earlier mentioned, when the deal is too sweet, think twice.

How to Prepare for an Interview

Being invited to a job interview and coming out successful from that interview are two separate things. Your good CV may have landed you a great job interview but you need an extra step to ensure that you shine during the interview. Most people make the mistake of taking things lightly especially after receiving a call for the job interview. They assume that they will automatically be accepted. Contrary to that, the aim of a job interview is to legitimize the applicant. You therefore need to be well synchronized with every detail in your Resume because the employer might want to test your trustworthiness. You should even be more careful especially if you hired someone else to write the CV for you.

Now you have received an invitation for an interview, what next? The first thing you should do is to try and find as much information as possible about that particular organization, company or institution. You may probably start by visiting their website and find out what exactly they deal with. This will definitely help you have a rough idea about their operations. Some people make the mistake of trying to memorize the contents of their Resume and forgetting the most important thing. It will be very unfortunate for you to be asked a question about that organization and appear not to have any idea. Ensure you do a thorough research to at least have adequate information.

Prepare your success stories:
Hiring managers usually look for people who can perfectly fit for the post advertised. They do not necessarily look for nice people. Their objective is to determine if you have what it takes to handle the post advertised. As you therefore prepare for the interview, ensure you create in your mind result-oriented stories that will convince the panel that you are an extraordinary person. A good success story should have 3 basic elements namely; try to describe the situation, describe how you got involved and identify the specific results that were achieved. The story will probably position as the right individual for the job.

Prepare answers for general questions:
There are few hiring managers that will take their time to come up with creative questions rather they will ask you typical interview questions such as, “tell us something about yourself” and so on and so forth. There are several publications which you can find that address numerous interview questions and answers. The most important thing therefore is to make sure you are ready for such kind of questions such that you do not get confused.

Prepare a few questions to ask:
This is one area that most interviewees overlook. And when I say questions, they are not questions about remuneration, overtime charges and so forth rather though provoking questions about the company for instance the mission and vision of the company, its products and services etc. this will definitely put you above other competitors for the post.

Lastly ensure you dress modestly, something that will not distract the attention of the panel interviewing you.
